About Craig Blac

Community Cuts was first launched as Blac’s way to give back to the community after becoming a hugely popular as an On-air Personality at WFUN-FM’s Q95.5. In 2011, the program will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary.

Over the years Community Cuts has not only provided hair cuts to boys and hairstyles for girls, but also school supplies so that the children are set for their first day of class. Community Cuts is launching a non-profit in 2011.

Along with running the operations of Community Cuts, Blac maintains a consulting business where he works with independent artists, such as Young Juke, in the St. Louis metro area. Craig’s most recent success was landing Young Juke on BET’s “Wild Out Wednesday.” Another Craig Blac Consulting client is Jus Bleezy Entertainment.

His business relationship with JB Entertainment first began in 2008 when Blac was hired as the Operations Director. In that position he developed the DJ Technology Retreat held in St. Louis in February 2008. Over 300 DJs from all over the country attended the event which provided workshops and seminars that taught them about the latest in DJ equipment. The Video Serato, a performance plug-in that enables DJs to perform a show with added visual content, was first unveiled at this event.

Before Craig Blac’s move into marketing consultation, his career was radio. He first got his start at WPGC 95.5 in D.C. where he was the overnight personality and a street team member, all while working towards a B.A. in Journalism at Bowie State University. He worked alongside two popular D.C. jocks, Tigger of BET’s “Rap City,” and the legendary Donnie Simpson. Blac later became the Assistant Promotions Director/Street Team Director/Weekend On-air Personality with a Sunday night go-go show at D.C.’s WKYS-FM 93.9. Go-go music’s greatest came through to sit in on Blac’s show, including the Chocolate City’s “godfather of go-go,” Chuck Brown.

In June 2001, Craig Blac made the move to St. Louis where he was an On-air Personality at the “Blazin’ Hip-Hop and R&B” station WFUN-FM Q95.5 in the 6 pm to 10 pm slot. His show was aptly titled “The Blac Out” and he immediately gained a great following after inviting local hip-hop artists to shine on the mic live on the “St. Louis Love” segment. He also interviewed various guests including St. Louis’ own Nelly and the St. Lunatics, Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Bow Wow and Noreaga.

Working hard in the community, the popular jock/APD created the weekly Q95.5 “All-Star Tour” where, along with fellow on-air personalities Tony J and Nite Owl, Blac visited area schools and spoke to students about working in the radio industry and the importance of education.  Before the station’s format change, Craig Blac served as the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, Music Director and an On-air Personality at Q95.5.

In 2006, Blac moved onto Dayton, Ohio’s WDHT-FM, HOT 102.9 as Program Director and he was also HOT’s Afternoon Personality from 3 pm to 7pm. He then went to Radio One’s WHHL in St. Louis where he held the position of Morning Show On-Air Personality and Program Director, and in late 2007 he served as an On-Air Personality at Clear Channel’s KATZ-FM.

Renegade, an internet radio show, was Blac’s next project. Being on the ‘net gave Blac more flexibility as a personality, and he interviewed a variety of artists including Ludacris, Rick Ross, Keri Hilson, Young Jeezy and Gorilla Zoe to name a few. By 2009, Blac landed at WESL where he helped launch the first sports talk show geared towards an urban audience. In 2010 he moved onto more independent ventures which have allowed him more creativity and more time to focus on Community Cuts, a project he’s continued to nurture over the years.
